Modalities and Therapies

Acupressure – A form of touch therapy that the principles of acupuncture and Chinese medicine. In acupressure, the same points on the body are used as in acupuncture, but are stimulated with finger pressure instead of with the insertion of needles. Acupressure is used to relieve a variety of symptoms and pain.  This therapy is light and non-invasive.  Traditionally preventative but can also be used to treat symptoms involved with menopause, hearing problems, general aches and pains, colds and flu, arthritis, allergies, asthma, nervous tension, menstrual cramps, sinus problems, sprains, tennis elbow, and toothaches, and many other health disorders.

Basic Reflexology – Massage based around a system of points in the hands and feet thought to correspond, or "reflex," to all areas of the body.

Cayce Reilly Massotherapy – Fundamental techniques of a relaxation massage with emphasis on the Cayce/Reilly variations of the Swedish method.

Chair Massage – The perfect stress reliever for people on the job.  The therapist will travel with a massage chair to your place of business and perform a 5 to 15 minute massage on each employee.  Various studies have shown that chair massage increases team cooperation, increases alertness and energy, relieves physical and emotional stress, lowers anxiety, decreases repetitive stress symptoms, and boosts the immune system.  For the icing on the cake, it decreases employee absenteeism and gives your team/employees a sense of appreciation for their hard work!

Clinical/Therapeutic Massage – Involves the manipulation of the soft tissue structures of the body to prevent and alleviate pain, discomfort, muscle spasm, and stress; and, to promote health and wellness.

CranioSacral Therapy – A gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system (comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord) which can improve the functioning of the central nervous system

David Blakey Method – The principles of this technique include locating and turning off the bodies holding pattern for injured areas, freeing up areas of the body that are glued together, opening up energy channels and helping the client assume responsibility for their own health.   A flexible blend of several modalities, it is massage that is designed to shift with the needs of the client and focus on the client’s mind, body, and spirit.

Deep Tissue and Sports Massage – Directed specifically to individual muscle fibers. Its purpose is to un-stick the fibers of a muscle while releasing deeply-held patterns of tension, removing toxins, relaxing, soothing and thereby re-educating, as well as encouraging the muscle to operate at full capacity. It is both corrective and therapeutic.

Fibromyalgia Massage – A custom tailored massage based solely on the very unique needs of the fibromyalgia client. The therapist understands what works for one client, may not work for another. Special oils are used to help with the pain associated with fibromyalgia. Results are recorded and used in later sessions to help tailor this massage until it's the best it can be for that individual.

Hot Stone Therapy – Uses heated stones to soften tight muscles, trigger points, and soothe chronic muscle pain while lessening discomfort during therapy.  Also used with Swedish relaxation massage to de-stress and relax with the added warmth from smooth stones being pressed against the skin.

Infant Massage – Can be performed by the massage therapist or the mother can be taught the technique so she can apply it.  Stimulates the circulatory, respiratory, and gastrointestinal systems. Benefits include relaxation for the infant, enhancing infant bonding with parent or caretaker, aiding in physical growth/development, promoting communication, and improving an infant's sleep cycle. Can relieve an infant of pain or discomfort it may be feeling associated with teething, congestion (chest or sinus), colic, or emotional stress. In addition, infant massage is known to speed myelination of the brain and nervous system along with relaxation and enhancement of neurological development.

Injury massage – Specifically targeted injury massage helps soft-tissue injuries (such as muscle pulls and strains, tendonitis, ligament sprains, and whiplash) heal faster. Massage reduces spasm, pain, swelling, and formation of excess scar tissue. Massage also breaks up excess scar tissue and adhesions (stuck together tissue) that weaken muscles and contribute to further injury.  Upon request, a massage on an injury related specific area of the body can be the concentration of your session or you may have some injury massage incorporated throughout!

Lymph Drainage Therapy – A gentle technique that works through the body's interstitial and lymphatic system to activate the body liquid circulation and stimulate the functioning of the immune and parasympathetic.  LDT is used to treat lymphedema, post surgical and post radiation scars, and common issues associated with a blockage of the lymph fluid

Massage Cupping (Cupping)  – By creating suction and negative pressure, Cupping therapy is used to soften tight muscles and tone attachments, loosen adhesions and lift connective tissue, bring hydration and blood flow to body tissues, and drain excess fluids and toxins by opening lymphatic pathways. This type of bodywork is versatile and can easily be modified to accomplish a range of techniques, from lymphatic drainage to deep tissue release. This complements many health modalities ranging from spa treatments to medical massage and physical therapy.  (For even more info on Massage Cupping™  Click Here!)

Muscle Release Technique SM (MRT) –  A unique injury therapy that combines compression, extension, movement, and breath to give the therapist a tool to provide, in many cases, relief from pain in one treatment. With MRT, scar tissue is broken up, the muscle is lengthened, muscle memory is restored and relief from pain starts immediately.

Myoskeletal Alignment Technique ® – A type of bodywork which blends the principles of osteopathy and structural integration to relieve chronic pain and to reduce the potential for the emergence of pain which could become chronic over time. This technique is often integrated into regular massage and bodywork sessions and can also be used alone to treat systemic problems.  It attempts to identify and correct chronic strain patterns before they become pain patterns.

Pregnancy Massage – A therapy specifically tailored for the expectant mother's needs, also called pre-natal massage.  The mother's body must be properly positioned and supported during the massage, using pillows and padding. Proper positioning ensures comfort and safety for the mother and baby.  Some massage techniques, such as deep tissue work, cannot be used and certain areas of the body should be avoided during pregnancy. Has been found to reduce stress, decrease swelling in the arms and legs, and relieve aches and pains in muscles and joints.  It's a popular complementary therapy during pregnancy for back pain, when choices for pain relief, such as medication, are often limited

Reiki  – A centuries-old practice of energy work that helps create deep relaxation in the body, which promotes the body’s natural ability to heal and be at peace.  It is simple, natural, and safe, and can be used in conjunction with all traditional medical treatments..  Please note that Reiki is not massage; only a gentle touch is used.

Structural Bodywork – Structural Integration focuses specifically on alignment between the body’s segments—the head, the shoulder girdle, rib cage, pelvis, the knee and ankle joints. When the body segments are in alignment then gravity works for us instead of against us. Structural Integration can also be known as Rolfing or Hellerwork. They all use the same techniques to bring about structural and postural change through manual manipulation of the fascia (connective tissue that surrounds muscles and muscle groups.) Structural Integration will bring relief to specific structural problems, such as carpal tunnel, neck pain, shoulder pain, and back pain. Repetitive stress injuries, anxiety disorders and chronic pain are all benefited by structural integration.

Swedish (Relaxation) Massage – A system of long strokes, kneading and friction techniques on the more superficial layers of the muscles, combined with active and passive movements of the joints.

Thai massage – More energizing and rigorous than more classic forms of massage, it is also called Thai yoga massage, because the therapist uses his or her hands, knees, legs, and feet to move you into a series of yoga-like stretches.  Many people say Thai massage is like doing yoga without any work.  Muscle compression, joint mobilization, and acupressure are also used during treatment.  People describe Thai massage as both relaxing and energizing.

Therapeutic Massage – A general description of massage where the therapist’s goal is to correct muscular problems and pain by manipulating the affected muscles.  Involves several other modalities to find the right blend to make the client feel better.

Trigger Point Therapy – applies concentrated finger pressure to "trigger points" (painful irritated areas in muscles) to break cycles of spasm and pain.
